Top 5 Reasons to Buy 1/2 Beef from a Local Farm

If you've never bought beef in bulk before, the idea of investing in a large quantity of meat can feel intimidating, but it doesn’t need to be. In addition to being easy and economical, buying bulk beef comes with some wonderful benefits. Before we share our top five reasons to buy 1/2 beef from a local farm, let’s get a big misconception about bulk beef out of the way. Do You Really Eat Enough Beef to Buy in Bulk? Many people assume you have to eat beef constantly to justify buying a share of an animal. But when you look at the numbers, that’s usually not the case. According to the USDA, the average American eats about 56 pounds of beef each year. For a family of four, that adds up to roughly 224 pounds of beef per year. That means a half beef share, which usually yields around 200 pounds of take-home beef, is actually a great fit for many families. To give you a better idea: 1/8 Beef – about 50 lbs (great for one person) 1/4 Beef – about 100 lbs (great for couples) 1/2 Beef – about 200 lbs (great for families of four) Whole Beef – about 400 lbs (perfect for large families or splitting with friends) The simple takeaway? If your family eats beef regularly, buying beef in bulk usually makes a lot of sense. Five Reasons to buy 1\2 Beef from a Local Farm 1. Bulk Savings  One of the biggest reasons families choose bulk beef is the long-term savings. When you buy beef cut-by-cut at the store, steaks usually cost far more per pound than ground beef. But when you buy a share of an animal, the pricing averages out across all the cuts. That means you’re getting premium steaks, roasts, and ground beef all at one consistent price per pound. For many families, the final price per pound ends up being much lower than buying individual cuts week after week. 2. It Protects You From Rising Meat Prices If you’ve bought meat recently, you’ve probably noticed prices keep climbing. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, meat prices have continued to rise over the past several years. No one can predict exactly where prices will go next, but when you buy beef in bulk, you’re locking in your price for the entire year’s supply of beef. That can be a big advantage for families trying to plan ahead. 3. Convenience There’s something comforting about opening the freezer and knowing dinner is already there. When your freezer is stocked with beef: You don’t have to make as many grocery store trips Meal planning becomes easier You always have something ready for dinner After a long day, having real food already in your freezer can make life a lot simpler. 4. It Honors the Whole Animal When you buy beef in bulk, you’re purchasing a share of the entire animal. That means enjoying a variety of cuts like: Steaks Roasts Ground beef And sometimes specialty cuts as well While it would be nice if every cow produced only ribeyes 😀, that’s just not how nature works. Buying in bulk helps ensure every part of the animal is valued and used, which is something many families appreciate when they buy directly from a farm. 5. It Helps Your Family Be Prepared Many families today are thinking more seriously about food security. Having a freezer full of beef means your family has a dependable food supply already at home. Whether it’s unexpected price increases, grocery shortages, or simply wanting to rely less on the store, having food stocked in your freezer brings peace of mind. Bonus benefit: You Support a Local Family Farm Buying local helps keep family farms like ours alive and thriving. More than that, when you buy 1/2 beef from a local farm, your support goes a step further. Buying in bulk helps family farmers plan more effectively, by anticipating harvest dates, order volumes, and necessary freezer space. It’s a win-win for everyone! Ready to Reserve Your Beef Share? What Am I Eating?

Hey Farm Friends, What a beautiful day this is turning out to be. Birds are singing and sun is shining so bright with hardly a cloud in sight. I think spring is coming soon :)  I want to challenge you (the reader) this week on this.  Look around at your food supply or at the grocery store the next time you go shopping. Was this food around 100 years ago? What are the ingredients in this food? If you can't pronounce it or don't know what it means then it's probably not good for you. Only about 10 to 15% of the foods found in grocery stores existed in a similar form hundred years ago. And over 60% of calories in modern US diet come from ultra processed foods. So I challenge you to look around at your food supply and question is this food safe to feed to my family?  Here at Pasture View Farm our mission is to bring you Real Unaltered Foods from our farm to your Family.  Blessings to a Healthy Life Michael  Pasture View Farm

New Farm Store

Hey folks,  We are excited to share the farm store rendering of the proposed farm store here on the farm. We can hardly wait until we open for all you folks that are local to the farm to have a place to shop all our meats and other items. And for you folks who are not close to the farm you can still drive out some weekend and site see the beautiful rolling hills of Morgantown and stop in at the farm.😀 It looks like we can open the farm store early March if all goes well. With the new store we will be able to display a lot more of our products to make it easier for you to shop. Its gonna be a busy next couple of weeks fitting out the new area.  We are doing most of the work ourselves, which I don't mind. I enjoy doing this kind of work. My family says creating things is one of my talents, and then some ppl say well why don't you work in construction there isn't nothing creative in being a farmer is there?  Oh boy let me tell you, what happens when the cows get out and their a half a mile away and wanna have a mind of their own.  Or when the pigs get out of their paddock and figure out where the creek is the middle of the summer, that calls for some creative ways of keeping them out of the creek! 😁 I always liked figuring things out and visioning what or how it could be. And thats why I am excited for what a on the farm store can bring to our Patrons.  Have a great weekend! God Bless  Michael Pasture View Farm

2026 Farm Plans

Good afternoon, As I sit here writing our first blog on our new website. There's a overwhelming feeling of gratefulness to all our customers from prior to 2023 and after 2023 when we officially made Pasture View into a business. I don't even like calling it at business I would rather say a community supporting our farm and mission. I just want to say thank you to all that support our farm. We could not be doing this without your commitment to healthy foods.  I just want to share a little into what is coming or what came already for our farm this year. We are really excited for this year of serving our customers and many more families like you.  1. New Website This one is obvious:) We are still working hard behind the scenes to get all our products up and live on the website. And getting everything sorted out in the backend with transitioning to a new software. Although it looks really exciting, what we can do with the new website. And for the convenience it brings to our customers. 2. Subscribe and Save  Our subscribe and save 5% is a great way to save a lot each month on recurring orders. You can click on this link to learn more.  3. Pickup Locations We are now offering pick up locations. Where you can meet us to pick up your meat in your neighborhood. You can also apply to host a pick up location at your home. There is a $250 order minimum amongst you and your neighbors to deliver to that pick up location.  To host a pick up location click here. 4. Farm Store This has been in the works for quite some time. Right now we only have a shed along the road where we sell our eggs and some meat. Our plan is to reconstruct one of our buildings into a farm store. We are currently working on the first phase of it. With hopes that we can open sometime in March. And with the new Farm store will come many more products.  Some new products that we want to have this year available in store and online:  Dairy products Sourdough breads  Garden vegetables Dry goods  It looks like a really busy spring with getting the new farm store finished. Which we can hardly wait for the warm weather. Speaking of warm weather it does not look like that will happen very soon. We are supposed to get over 12" of snow tomorrow and freezing cold temperatures for the next two weeks. Are y'all ready? Spring is not here yet. Our family and team counts it a pleasure to bring you clean, regeneratively pastured, nutritious meats just as if you had your own family farm.😀Stay safe in the snow storm!God BlessMichaelPasture View Farm
